That’s why we’re proud to announce our ongoing partnership with Gili Shark Conservation, an initiative by NGO Gili Matra Bersama, dedicated to marine conservation and community empowerment in the Gili Islands, Indonesia.
Diving with Purpose
Nestled between Bali and Lombok, the Gili Islands are home to some of the most biodiverse and fragile marine ecosystems in the world. Every day, our team joins the passionate conservationists at Gili Shark Conservation to conduct abundance surveys—underwater research dives designed to collect data on marine life populations and reef health. These efforts play a crucial role in identifying ecological trends, protecting vulnerable species, and supporting the creation of marine protected areas.
Empowering Local Leaders
But Gili Matra Bersama’s work goes far beyond data collection. As a local NGO, their mission is deeply rooted in community. They focus on educating, training, and empowering local talent to become guardians of their own environment and leaders in the region’s tourism industry. Through mentorship and capacity-building, they’re creating a sustainable model for conservation that’s led by the people who call these islands home.
A core part of their mission also includes providing scholarships to Indonesian women who aspire to careers in marine science but lack the resources or support to pursue their dreams. These women are not only becoming skilled divers and conservationists—they’re becoming role models for future generations.
